This is the time to enjoy the fruits of the videogame war. With the fast-selling X-men and Starfox on the market, gameplayers can enjoy major releases of good games, and no system is left in the dust. Let's take a look at some of the hot games to be released this year for both systems.
Star Trek: The Next Generation (Spectrum Holobyte for Genesis and SNES, fall release). Hop aboard the Star Ship Enterprise into the 24th century in this space adventure game. The game combines elements of space battle with planet exploration to make for the ultimate Star Trek adventure. The graphics look terrific and the game is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The space battle scenes make Star Control look shabby, and the exploration scenes are highly reminiscent of Phantasy Star II, but all in all, expect this game to be hot.
Silpheed: (name pending, Sega for Sega CD, fall release). This is a Starfox-like adventure game for Sega CD. Polygon graphics, fast action, and great challenge accompany what many are calling the best flying game ever. Hot graphics, killer sound, and an overall great playability factor make this game a Sega CD owner's dream come true.
Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition: (Capcom for Genesis, September release). What's left to say? This will be one of the biggest Genesis sellers ever. An exact translation of the arcade classic, SF2:CE brings home the excitement that made this game one of the biggest arcade hits ever. With twelve world warriors, new moves, and a high challenge factor, this a game to get. Also slated for September is Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting for SNES.
