Say the person you're dating likes to go to the symphony. Classical music bores you to tears, but you'd do anything for this affair. Well, in a few short hours, you can start talking fugues and fortissimos just like a real music critic poseur. And probably be able to start backing off that pre-concert No-Doz. […]

Say the person you're dating likes to go to the symphony. Classical music bores you to tears, but you'd do anything for this affair. Well, in a few short hours, you can start talking fugues and fortissimos just like a real music critic poseur. And probably be able to start backing off that pre-concert No-Doz.

The Voyager Company of Santa Monica, California has released a classical music series on CD-ROM for Apple computers (PC versions will appear eventually). The idea is to use all the resources possible on CD-ROM to open up works of art that would otherwise be impenetrable. A few hours with Schubert's The Trout quintet is quite enough to make the scales fall from anyone's eyes. One not only learns how to listen to that piece but learns how to hear any piece of classical music in a whole different - and much fuller - way.

Trout CD-ROM: $59. The Voyager Company: +1 (310) 451 1383.
